Our scheduled prebooked services take hikers from Launceston to the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre, where you can complete your registration, safety briefing and connect with the Cradle Mountain shuttle to Ronny Creek, the northern starting point of the Overland Track and from the end of the Overland Track (Lake St Clair) back to either Launceston or Hobart. Wild Island Adventures currently offers 6:00 am and 12:00 noon departures from Launceston to Cradle Mountain which you will need to prebook during the main Overland Track season. The morning service is ideal for walkers starting the track that day, while the midday service can suit walkers staying overnight around Cradle Mountain before beginning their hike. If these times do not suits, Wildisland Adventures also offers flexible Overland Tack transport options of which can be discussed upon request.

The Launceston to Cradle Mountain transfer takes approximately 2 hours, depending on road, weather and traffic conditions. We recommend allowing additional time when planning connections with your Overland Track registration, Cradle Mountain shuttle or accommodation. Along the morning journey, we also havea 10 minute bathroom, coffee, and snack stop at Sheffiled (half way point) Bossimis Bakery of which is very close to the IGA if any last minute items are needed.

Yes. Launceston Airport transport to Cradle Mountain can be arranged depending on the service and booking requirements. Airport pickup can be particularly useful for interstate and international travellers arriving in Tasmania before starting the Overland Track.

Yes. Your Overland Track booking does not include transport from Launceston to Cradle Mountain. Parks and Wildlife Service Tasmania advises walkers to arrange transport separately and recommends planning transport in the booking season, as soon as you have your overland track pass.

Our road transfer takes you to the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre. From there, Overland Track walkers use the Parks and Wildlife shuttle bus to travel to Ronny Creek, where the Overland Track begins. The Cradle Mountain shuttle operates between the Visitor Centre and Ronny Creek, with the journey to Dove Lake taking approximately 20 minutes.

Yes. Walkers need the appropriate Overland Track booking and Parks and Wildlife requirements for their trip. During the main booking season from October to May, the Overland Track booking fee includes park entry for the duration of the walk. Always check the current Parks and Wildlife requirements before travelling.

Wild Island Adventures offers Overland Track gear hire in Launceston, including hiking tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, backpacks, waterproof clothing, gaiters, hiking poles, cooking equipment and other hiking equipment. Gear hire can be booked separately or combined with an Overland Track transport and gear hire package.

For walkers starting the Overland Track on the same day, an early morning Launceston departure is generally the most suitable option because it provides time to reach Cradle Mountain, complete the required registration and travel by shuttle to Ronny Creek. Parks and Wildlife recommends allowing plenty of time for the transport and registration process. Wild Island offers regulard prebooked Overland Track Transport at 6:00am and 12:00pm from Launceston to Cradle Mountain visitor centre.
